Bangladesh Bank Chief Executive Office Motijheel, Dhaka-1000 Bangladesh. Ref No.: BRPD-1 Circular Letter No. 10 Banking Regulation and Policy Department-1 Date: ----------------- 11 March 2026 26 Falgun 1432

To, Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer All Scheduled Banks operating in Bangladesh.

Dear Sir,

Regarding the adoption of precautionary steps for gas and fuel oil saving amidst current geopolitical situations.

  1. Due to the current international situation, disruptions have occurred in the international fuel supply system. To address the risk of fuel and electricity shortages, ensure national fuel security, and ensure the optimal use of state resources, the government has taken various saving measures.

  2. In such a situation, the following instructions are issued to ensure electricity and fuel saving in the head offices, branches, sub-branches, and other offices of scheduled banks:

a) Electricity Saving: The use of electric lights, fans, air conditioners (AC), and other electronic equipment inside the offices must be limited. Maximum use of daylight must be ensured, and unnecessary lights and ACs must be kept off. The temperature of the AC shall not be kept below 25 degrees Celsius.

b) Fuel Saving: To reduce fuel costs for vehicles used by the bank, economy must be practiced in personal and institutional travel. Public transport should be used instead of personal vehicles, and if possible, carpooling arrangements should be adopted. To reduce the use of fuel oil, unnecessary travel should be minimized/avoided as much as possible.

c) Business Activities: The prescribed time schedule and regulations regarding the use of lighting and promotional electronic display boards in the bank building must be followed properly. Unnecessary and excessive lighting should be avoided. Conservation steps must be taken regarding the use of fuel in electric generators.

  1. Furthermore, advice is given again to properly comply with the instructions of BRPD Circular Letter No. 37 dated September 7, 2022, titled "Regarding the efficient use of electricity and fuel and fuel-saving use of air conditioning equipment."

  2. These instructions are issued under the powers conferred by Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991.

Yours faithfully,

(Gazi Md. Mahfuzul Islam) Director (BRPD-1) Phone: 9530252
