Private scheduled banks in Bangladesh are authorized to establish branches named "SME/Agriculture Branch" instead of "SME Service Centre." These branches may conduct all banking activities except foreign exchange transactions and must invest at least 50% of collected deposits into the SME or agriculture sectors. Applications must be submitted along with the bank's annual branch expansion programme, with priority given to locations outside divisional cities and upazilas, particularly in backward unbanked areas.
