BRPD Circular Letter No. 11: Directives on Agent Banking Operation
The Banking Policy and Regulation Department of Bangladesh Bank amends previous directives to permit the operation of agent banking programs in upazila and municipality areas, whereas such operations remain prohibited in metropolitan and city corporation areas. This change, effective immediately, overrides the prior restriction that limited agent banking to areas outside metropolitan, city corporation, and municipality zones.

Reference is invited to BRPD Circular Letter No.-07, dated 24 March, 2014 on the above subject. It was directed in paragraph 05 of the said Circular Letter that the Agent Banking Program policy should be operated in areas other than Metropolitan/City Corporation/Municipality areas. After due consideration, it has been decided by the competent authority that the Agent Banking Program may also be operated in upazila and municipality areas. However, the matter of not operating the Agent Banking Program in Metropolitan/City Corporation areas will remain unchanged. This directive will be effective immediately. Please acknowledge receipt.
