CIEX No. 55/2020: New Version of the Bolivian Banknote Selection Manual
Financial intermediation entities must classify all banknote bundles formed on or after December 1, 2020, as fit or unfit for circulation according to the criteria in the new version of the Bolivian Banknote Selection Manual. This updated manual includes samples from the First Family of Banknotes of the Plurinational State. The regulation mandates strict adherence to these classification standards for all banknote packages handled by these entities starting from the effective date.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
The Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB), in accordance with Article No. 328, paragraph 4 of the Political Constitution of the State, Article 3 of Law No. 901 of 28-11-1986, and Article 10 of Law No. 1670 of 31-10-1995, is the sole Institution that exclusively and non-delegably exercises the function of issuing the monetary unit of Bolivia, which is "The Boliviano," in the form of banknotes and metallic coins.
Likewise, according to Article 13 of Law No. 1670: "The BCB, banks, and all financial intermediation institutions are obligated to exchange deteriorated or mutilated banknotes, provided that they clearly retain their two signatures and a serial number."
In this sense, with the competence granted to the Issuing Authority by the Political Constitution of the State and the corresponding laws, it communicates to all Financial Intermediation Entities (FIE) that starting from December 1, 2020, a new version of the "Bolivian Banknote Selection Manual" will enter into force, which includes samples of the First Family of Banknotes of the Plurinational State.
Consequently, all banknote packages formed by the FIEs starting from December 1, 2020, must be classified as fit or unfit following the criteria established in the new version of the aforementioned Manual.
