Credit institutions must separate the new dodecagonal coins from circular ones during deposits and may deliver them in bags of 700 pieces, distinct from the 500-piece bags for circular coins. The coin features specific physical dimensions, alloy compositions, and security elements, and the circular enters into force on May 13, 2026.

CIRCULAR 7/2026 Mexico City, May 13, 2026. SUBJECT: Release into circulation of a $20 coin, commemorating the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
TO CREDIT INSTITUTIONS:
The Bank of Mexico, based on the provisions of articles 28, paragraphs seventh and eighth, of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States; 2nd, 3rd, fraction I, 4th, 24, paragraphs first and second, and 25 of the Bank of Mexico Law; 48 of the Credit Institutions Law; 1st, 4th, paragraphs first and fourth, 8th, paragraphs fourth and eighth, 10, paragraph first, 16 Bis, fraction II, and 17, fraction I, of the Internal Regulations of the Bank of Mexico; Second, fractions III and X, of the Agreement on the Assignment of Administrative Units of the Bank of Mexico; as well as the “DECREE establishing the characteristics of three commemorative coins for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, organized by Mexico-United States-Canada” (hereinafter, “Decree”), published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on March 10, 2026, has resolved to release into circulation a twenty-peso coin commemorating the 2026 FIFA World Cup, organized by Mexico-United States-Canada, of current minting, which will coexist with the twenty-peso banknotes and metallic coins currently in circulation. This coin will be identified with the following key:

Credit institutions must make their deposits with the Bank of Mexico in accordance with what is established in Chapter VI, of Title III, of Circular 3/2025, Provisions on cash operations, correspondent banking, and handling of allegedly counterfeit or altered pieces, separating the aforementioned new commemorative coin from those with key 810, which are circular in shape, have a diameter of 32.0 mm (thirty-two millimeters) and a total weight of 15.945 grams, which differ from the aforementioned commemorative coin.
Likewise, it is important to reiterate that, as of August 8, 2022, the Bank of Mexico may deliver, in withdrawals of twenty-peso Type “C1” metallic coins with a dodecagonal shape, indistinctly those with key 941 and whose content per bag is 500 pieces, or those with key 959, whose content per bag will be 700 pieces. Therefore, credit institutions may make their deposits with the Bank of Mexico combining

commemorations in bags of 700 pieces. This, without combining the dodecagonal coins with those of circular shape.
In accordance with the Decree, as well as with the design determined by this Issuing Institute, the new coin will have the following characteristics:
I. Nominal value: $20.00 (twenty pesos 00/100 M.N.). II. Shape: Dodecagonal. III. Diameter: 30.0 mm (thirty millimeters). IV. Composition: The coin will be bimetallic and will consist of two alloys, one for its central part and another for its peripheral ring, as follows:

Reverse: Slightly offset to the left in the center, a soccer ball and a jaguar; above, the outline of the Mexican Republic as a latent image; and to the right, the 2026 FIFA TM logo and the microtext MEXICO TRIPLE HOST WORLD CUP. Monarch butterflies distributed throughout the core and ring of the coin. On the upper contour, the legend 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP TM. To the right, the mint mark of the Mexican Mint M°. On the lower contour, in the center, an agave; prickly pears on both sides; wheat on the left and corn on the right. In the exergue, the denomination $20. VI. Edge: Discontinuous reeded. VII. Security elements: Latent image and microtext, on the reverse of the coin, which must be related to its theme.
Finally, this circular enters into force on this same date.
