The Central Bank of Egypt extends the Tourism Sector Support Initiative and the Retail Loans Initiative for Tourism Sector Workers until the end of December 2021. Banks are authorized to accept deferral requests for loan installments for up to three years under the Tourism Sector Support Initiative and for an additional six months from the due date for retail loans for housing and personal use under the Retail Loans Initiative. The extension maintains all other initiative conditions, including the application of IFRS 9 provisions and the allowance for previously benefited borrowers to defer payments.

With reference to the Central Bank's initiative to support the Tourism Sector issued on March 31, 2020, and the Retail Loans Initiative for workers in the tourism sector issued on December 7, 2020, and its subsequent circulars, the latest of which is the circular issued on November 8, 2020, which extended the implementation period for Article 1 to December 13, 2020.
In light of the Corona crisis and the continuation of its impact on the tourism sector, the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Egypt, in its meeting held on November 22, 2020, has approved the following decision:
Extend the validity period of the Tourism Sector Support Initiative for an additional year to end at the end of December 2021. Banks are allowed during this period to accept any requests for deferral of bank installments for up to 3 years, while confirming the following:
Extend the validity period of the Retail Loans Initiative for workers in the tourism sector for one year to end at the end of December 2021. Banks are allowed to accept requests for deferral of loan installments for the purposes of:
Do not interfere with credit provisions, while taking into account the requirements of the International Financial Reporting Standard for Financial Instruments (IFRS 9).
Allow the deferral of installments for borrowers in the tourism sector who previously benefited from the Retail Loans Initiative for workers in the tourism sector since its issuance on December 7, 2020.
