Circular dated January 10, 2022 regarding emergency liquidity instructions

The Central Bank of Egypt extends the mandatory 100% cash deposit requirement for imports of lentils, chickpeas, and beans until March 15, 2023. This decision applies to all import operations for these commodities, subject to the Bank's risk assessment. Banks are instructed to ensure compliance with this extended deadline.

Greetings,

With reference to the letter from the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt dated December 21, 2015, regarding import operation controls and periodic letters, and in light of the circular dated March 23, 2021, which stipulates a 100% cash deposit for imports of lentils, chickpeas, and beans for operations until March 15, 2022,

And in light of the Central Bank's continuous monitoring of market liquidity and its keenness to facilitate import operations to meet citizens' needs, it has been decided to extend the mandatory period for the aforementioned commodities until March 15, 2023.

This decision applies to all import operations for these commodities, subject to the risk assessments conducted by the Bank.

Please be so kind as to alert your staff to take action in accordance with the aforementioned decision.
