Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 11/5/PBI/2009 Concerning Amendment of Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 3/19/PBI/2001 Concerning Issuance and Circulation of the Year 2001 Banknotes in the 5,000 Denomination

Bank Indonesia issued Regulation Number 11/5/PBI/2009 to amend the specifications for the 5,000 Rupiah banknote, primarily updating the obverse design to include the year of printing and signatures of the Governor and Deputy Governor. Whereas the issuance and circulation of Rupiah is addressed to provide cash in society as an instrument of payment (legal tender); b. Whereas to optimalize the function of element on currency in the 5.000 (five thousand) Rupiah denomination as a legal tender in Indonesia, it is deemed necessary to enhance the design of Rupiah currency especially for the signature in bank notes, the placement of year of issue or year of emission, and the year of print; c. Now therefore, based on the considerations referred to in letter a and letter b, it is necessary to amend Bank Indonesia Regulation concerning Issuance and Circulation of the Year 2001 Issue of Banknotes in the 5,000 (five thousand) Rupiah Denomination; In view of: 1. Article I Some articles in Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 3/19/PBI/2001 concerning issuance and circulation of the year 2001 banknotes in the 5,000 (five thousand) denomination (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 131 of 2001) are amended to read as follows:

  1. Article 4 is amended to read as follows: Article 4 The specifications of the currency in the 5,000 (five thousand) rupiah denomination referred to in Article 1 are:
  2. Color a. Obverse side is printed in green, violet, pink, light brown and dark brown; b. Reverse side is printed in light brown, violet, dark brown, green, black, and reddish-brown.

To the left of the main image, inscribed horizontally, the number “5000”, a rectoverso image that if held up to the light will reveal a complete logo of Bank Indonesia, rosette-shaped embossing with inkles printed, anti photocopy in form of “RI”, anti photo-reproduction in form of recurring and alternating “BI”, inscription “BANK INDONESIA”, and inscription “LIMA RIBU RUPIAH”;
  3.
