Decision on the Basic Features and Design of Convertible Mark Banknotes in Denominations of 10, 20, 50, and 100

Based on Article 2. paragraph 3. point h., Article 7. point e., Article 39. and Article 42. of the Law on the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Official Gazette of BiH" number: 1/97, 29/02, 13/03, 14/03, 09/05, 76/06 and 32/07), the Conclusion of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina number: 01-50-1-102-45/11 of January 17, 2011, and in accordance with the Policy on the Production of Cash Money - Convertible Mark 100-UV number: 78/10 of May 26, 2010, the Governing Board of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina at its 1st meeting on January 31, 2011, adopts

D E C I S I O N on the basic features and design of convertible mark banknotes denominations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 convertible marks

BANKNOTE VERSIONS

1. This Decision establishes the basic features and design of convertible mark (hereinafter: KM) banknotes in the denomination of 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM as legal tender in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

2. The KM banknotes from the previous point of this Decision are printed in two versions – the version of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the version of the Republika Srpska, which have certain common as well as certain separate design elements established by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, respectively the Republika Srpska, which characterize the subject versions of KM banknotes. All KM banknotes will have protective characteristics, paper quality and manufacturing in accordance with the Policy on the Production of Cash Money – Convertible Mark cited above and acts of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

3. In the version of KM banknotes of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the face of the banknotes there is the textual designation of the nominal value of KM banknotes, the text “CENTRALNA BANKA BOSNE I HERCEGOVINE“ and the text „KONVERTIBILNIH MARAKA“ which are first printed in Latin script and then below in Cyrillic script, and portraits of writers with corresponding text proposed by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Below the respective writer's portrait, the writer's name is written in Latin script.

4. In the version of KM banknotes of the Republika Srpska, on the face of the banknotes there is the textual designation of the nominal value of KM banknotes, the text “CENTRALNA BANKA BOSNE I HERCEGOVINE“ and the text „KONVERTIBILNIH MARAKA“ which are first printed in Cyrillic script and then below in Latin script, and portraits of writers proposed by the Republika Srpska. Below the respective writer's portrait, the writer's name is written in Cyrillic script.

5. Both versions of KM banknotes are equal under the Law on the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and all public and private institutions and establishments, legal and natural persons are obliged to accept them at their nominal value as legal tender, when offered in cash transactions or in settlement and payment of any obligations to them, throughout the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

6. On the back of KM banknotes of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina version, the image-illustration is based on fragments of stećci (medieval tombstones), while in KM banknotes of the Republika Srpska version, the image-illustration is related to the person whose portrait is on the face of the banknote.

FEATURES AND DESIGN

7. The basic features of KM banknotes which represent elements of the design of banknotes from point 1. of this Decision are: 1. size and color of KM banknotes; 2. portraits of writers with corresponding text on the face and images-illustrations with corresponding text on the back of KM banknotes; 3. the text “CENTRALNA BANKA BOSNE I HERCEGOVINE“, positioned as follows: ­ on the face of the banknote, vertically at the top of the banknote between the serial number and the numerical designation of the nominal value of KM banknotes, ­ on the back of the banknote, in the upper central part of the banknote above the corresponding image – illustration; 4. the text „KONVERTIBILNIH MARAKA“ on the face of the banknote, positioned below the numerical designation of the nominal value of KM banknotes; 5. numerical (numbers 10, 20, 50 and 100) designation of the nominal value of the KM banknote, positioned as follows: ­ on the face of the banknote, in the upper part of the banknote above the writer's portrait on the right side and in the lower part of the banknote between the Governor's signature and the writer's portrait, ­ on the back of the banknote, in the upper left part of the banknote on the left side of the text from subpoint 3.) of this point and in the lower central part of the white surface on the right half of the banknote; 6. textual designation of the nominal value of the KM banknote positioned as follows: ­ on the face of the banknote, placed vertically along the right edge of the banknote, ­ on the back of the banknote, placed vertically along the left edge of the banknote.

8. In addition to the basic features and elements from point 7. of this Decision, each KM banknote also contains the following features which are not elements of the design of KM banknotes: 1. the serial number of the KM banknote which consists of a capital letter printed in Latin script and eight digits, positioned on the face of the banknote in the upper left and lower right corners; 2. the text „GUVERNER - ГУВЕРНЕР“ in the case of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina version, or the text „ГУВЕРНЕР – GUVERNER“ in the case of the Republika Srpska version, positioned on the face of the banknote in the lower central part of the white surface on the left half of the banknote; 3. facsimile of the Governor's signature, positioned above the text from the previous subpoint; 4. year of issue of KM banknotes which consists of four digits, positioned below the text from subpoint 2.) of this point.

9. On all KM banknotes, for the same denomination in both versions, an equal background numismatic pattern and a common (same) arrangement of all elements are given, with the main drawing on both sides of the banknote, printed on the background in guilloche. Each KM banknote contains artistic elements that improve the design of the banknote.

BANKNOTE DENOMINATION 10 KM

10. The 10 KM banknote is size 65 mm x 130 mm. On the face and back of the 10 KM banknote, orange color and blue color in a lighter shade predominate.

11. On the face of the 10 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.), 4.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the right half of the banknote there is a portrait of Mehmedalija Maka Dizdar with his first and last name in Latin script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side, while in the version where the subject text is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the face of the banknote there is a portrait of Alekša Šantić with his first and last name in Cyrillic script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side.

12. On the back of the 10 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a stećak below which on the left side in Latin script is the text „STEĆAK RADIMLJA fragment“, while in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the central part of the back of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a loaf of bread.

BANKNOTE DENOMINATION 20 KM

13. The 20 KM banknote is size 68 mm x 138 mm. On the face and back of the 20 KM banknote, gray color and brown color in various shades predominate.

14. On the face of the 20 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.), 4.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the right half of the banknote there is a portrait of Antun Branko Šimić with his first and last name in Latin script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side, while in the version where the subject text is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the face of the banknote there is a portrait of Filip Višnjić with his first and last name in Cyrillic script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side.

15. On the back of the 20 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a stećak below which on the left side in Latin script is the text „STEĆAK RADIMLJA fragment“, while in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the central part of the back of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a gusle.

BANKNOTE DENOMINATION 50 KM

16. The 50 KM banknote is size 71 mm x 146 mm. On the face and back of the 50 KM banknote, red and pink colors in various shades predominate.

17. On the face of the 50 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.), 4.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the right half of the banknote there is a portrait of Muza Ćazim Ćatić with his first and last name in Latin script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side, while in the version where the subject text is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the face of the banknote there is a portrait of Jovan Dučić with his first and last name in Cyrillic script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side.

18. On the back of the 50 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a stećak below which on the left side in Latin script is the text „STEĆAK ZGOŠĆA fragment“, while in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the central part of the back of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a book, glasses and a pencil.

BANKNOTE DENOMINATION 100 KM

19. The 100 KM banknote is size 74 mm x 154 mm. On the face and back of the 100 KM banknote, brown color in various shades predominates with the presence of ochre color.

20. On the face of the 100 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.), 4.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the right half of the banknote there is a portrait of Nikola Šop with his first and last name in Latin script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side, while in the version where the subject text is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the face of the banknote there is a portrait of Petar Kočić with his first and last name in Cyrillic script and dates of birth and death noted below the portrait on the right side.

21. On the back of the 100 KM banknote, in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Latin script, in the central part of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a stećak below which on the left side in Latin script is the text „STEĆAK ZGOŠĆA fragment“, while in the version where the text from point 7. subpoint 3.) and 6.) of this Decision is first printed in Cyrillic script, on the central part of the back of the banknote there is an image-illustration of a book, glasses and a pencil.

TRANSITIONAL AND FINAL PROVISIONS

22. KM banknotes in circulation whose basic features and design are established by the Decision of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the issuance and putting into circulation of convertible mark banknotes, UV number: 11/98 of May 28, 1998, represent legal tender.

23. In accordance with this Decision, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina will adopt decisions on the printing and putting into circulation of KM banknotes whose basic features and design are established by this Decision.

24. This Decision enters into force on the day of publication in the “Official Gazette of BiH”, and will also be published in the “Official Gazette of the Federation of BiH”, “Official Gazette of the Republika Srpska” and “Official Gazette of the Brčko District of BiH”.
