DFIM Circular Letter No. 14: Keeping FIs branches closed in the Related Election areas on 17th & 19th July 2023
Non-banking financial institutions must remain closed in specific election areas on Monday, 17 July 2023, and Wednesday, 19 July 2023, in accordance with Ministry of Public Administration Notification No. 05.00.0000.173.08.002.18-116 dated 12 July 2023. Financial institutions located in the 190 Dhaka-17 constituency must keep only essential departments of their main offices open on a limited basis. This directive is issued under the authority granted by Section 18(c) of the Financial Institutions Act, 1993.

Dear Sir,
Regarding the closure of non-banking financial institutions in the relevant election areas on the polling dates of 17th and 19th July 2023, in connection with the general elections for the vacant seat of 190 Dhaka-17 of the Jatiya Sangsad and for 07 Municipalities and Upazila Parishads/Union Parishads, and by-elections for vacant seats.

In accordance with Notification No. 05.00.0000.173.08.002.18-116 dated 12th July 2023 of the Ministry of Public Administration, on Monday, 17th July 2023, general elections will be held for the vacant seat of 190 Dhaka-17 of the Jatiya Sangsad and for 07 Municipalities (Vhandaria Municipality of Pirojpur District, Chhagarchar Municipality of Chandpur District, Debidwar Municipality of Cumilla District, Benapole Municipality of Jessore District, Dohazari Municipality of Chittagong District, Gosaurhat Municipality of Shariatpur District, and Tashia Municipality of Sirajganj District), a by-election for a vacant seat of 01 Upazila Parishad (Bagha Upazila of Rajshahi District), general elections for 29 Union Parishads (according to the combined list), and by-elections for vacant seats of 11 Union Parishads (according to the combined list). On Wednesday, 19th July 2023, a by-election for a vacant seat of 01 Upazila Parishad (Sandwip Upazila of Chittagong District) will be held. Therefore, on the polling dates, i.e., Monday, 17th July 2023, and Wednesday, 19th July 2023, all non-banking financial institutions located in the relevant election areas will remain closed.

Essential departments of the main offices (if any) of financial institutions located in the 190 Dhaka-17 election constituency will remain open on a limited basis.
This directive is issued under the powers conferred by Section 18(c) of the Financial Institutions Act, 1993.
