DMD Circular Letter No. 03: Regarding Investment Limit and Rate Refixation of US Dollar Premium and Investment Bond

The Government of Bangladesh revised the investment slabs and profit rates for the U.S. Dollar Premium Bond and U.S. Dollar Investment Bond based on deposit amounts up to US$100,000, between US$100,000 and US$500,000, and above US$500,000 for tenures of one, two, and three years. The new slabs apply to new investments, while existing schemes retain their current rates until maturity, with separate accounting required for each scheme and transactions allowed in both US Dollars and Bangladeshi Taka.

In this regard, the Notification No. 08.00.0000.041.22.017.16 dated 04 April, 2022 of the Internal Resources Division, Ministry of Finance, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, regarding the re-fixation of the investment slab and profit rate of the US Dollar Premium Bond and US Dollar Investment Bond included in the National Savings Bond, is being sent herewith for your information and necessary action.

Notification

In accordance with the U.S. Dollar Premium Bond Rules, 2002 (Amended upto 30 June 2012) and U.S. Dollar Investment Bond Rules, 2002 (Amended upto 30 June 2012), the investment slab and profit rate for the following two bonds are hereby re-fixed as follows:

  • The new slabs for the two mentioned savings schemes will be in US Dollars (US$) and there will be no upper limit for investment in both schemes;
  • In the case of providing profit based on new slabs, separate investment accounts will be maintained for the two mentioned schemes. However, the profit rate of the two savings schemes issued prior to the introduction of the new slabs will be applicable at the current rate during their tenure;
  • The investment amount for the two mentioned schemes will be accounted for separately from all other savings schemes; and
  • There will be a facility to receive accounts related to transactions of both schemes in both US Dollars (US$) and Bangladeshi currency (BDT).
