DOS Circular Letter No. 06: Regarding keeping scheduled bank branches of election area close for 1st and 2nd phase Union Council Election-2016

Scheduled banks must keep all branches closed in specific union council election areas on March 22, 23, 27, and 31, 2016, corresponding to the voting dates for the first and second phases of the 2016 Union Parishad General Election. Dear Sir,

Regarding the declaration of closing of scheduled bank branches in the respective election areas on the day of voting for the 1st and 2nd phases of the Union Parishad General Election-2016.

With reference to the letter no. 05.00.0000.173.08.004.11-80 dated 16/03/2016 from the Rule-4 Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, it has been brought to our attention that the Election Commission has announced the following voting dates for the Union Parishad General Election-2016: March 22, 2016, for the elections of 722 Union Parishads in the 1st phase; March 23, 2016, for the elections of 11 Union Parishads in Nagarpur Upazila, Tangail District; March 27, 2016, for the elections of Hoikyang and Hnila Union Parishads in Teknaf Upazila; and March 31, 2016, for the elections of 643 Union Parishads in the 2nd phase. A general holiday has been declared in the respective election areas on these voting days for all officers/clerks working in all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private offices/institutions/organizations, as well as for teachers/officers/clerks of government and private educational institutions, to facilitate the exercise of their voting rights and access to polling stations.

In light of the above, all branches of scheduled banks located in the respective election areas shall remain closed on the aforementioned dates to enable bank officers/clerks to exercise their voting rights and access polling facilities.
