DOS Circular Letter No. 13: Keeping bank branches closed from 14 April 2021 to 21 April 2021

Regarding banking operations amidst government-imposed restrictions to prevent coronavirus infection. Dear Sir, In light of the worsening situation of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Cabinet Division has issued a memorandum dated 12 April 2021 (Ref: 04.00.0000.514.16.003.20.120) directing that all government institutions remain closed from 14 April 2021 to 21 April 2021. In this context, the following instructions are issued for compliance by scheduled banks:

1. All scheduled banks shall generally remain closed during the period of government-declared restrictions. During this time, all bank staff/employees must remain at their respective workplaces.

2. Appropriate arrangements must be made in consultation with port/customs authorities regarding keeping bank branches/sub-branches/booths located in sea/land/air port areas (port and customs areas) open. In providing such banking services, respective banks may keep the concerned Approved Dealer (AD) branches and relevant departments of the Head Office open with a limited number of staff as per their requirements.

3. Necessary arrangements must be made to ensure the supply of notes to ATM booths with the assistance of the respective administration to facilitate ongoing transactions via ATMs and cards, and to keep internet banking services operational round the clock where applicable.

These instructions will be effective from 14 April 2021.
