DOS Circular Letter No. 19: Keeping scheduled bank branches closed in the Related Election areas on 17th & 19th July 2023
The Department of Offshore Supervision directs all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh to remain closed in specific election areas on Monday, 17 July 2023, and Wednesday, 19 July 2023, in accordance with a gazette notification from the Ministry of Public Administration. This closure applies to areas conducting National Parliament by-elections for the Dhaka-17 vacant seat, seven upazila parish by-elections, and various union parishad elections. Banks located in the Dhaka-17 constituency may keep only essential departments open on a limited basis.

Subject: Context of keeping scheduled banks closed in the related election areas on 17th and 19th July 2023 on the days of voting for the General Election of 190 Dhaka-17 vacant seats of the National Parliament and 07 Municipalities and Upazila Parishad/Union Parishad, and by-elections for vacant positions.
Dear Sir,
According to the Gazette Notification No. 05.00.0000.173.08.002.18-116 dated 12 July 2023 of the Ministry of Public Administration, on Monday, 17 July 2023, voting will take place for the General Election of the vacant seat of Dhaka-17 (190) of the National Parliament and seven municipalities (Vhandaria Municipality of Pirojpur District, Chengarchar Municipality of Chandpur District, Debidwar Municipality of Comilla District, Benapole Municipality of Jessore District, Dohazari Municipality of Chittagong District, Gosaurhat Municipality of Shariatpur District, and Tashar Municipality of Sirajganj District), by-election for a vacant position of one Upazila Parishad (Bagha Upazila of Rajshahi District), General Election of 29 Union Parishads (according to the combined list), by-election for vacant positions of 11 Union Parishads (according to the combined list), and on Wednesday, 19 July 2023, by-election for a vacant position of one Upazila Parishad (Sandwip Upazila of Chittagong District). Therefore, on the days of voting, i.e., Monday, 17 July 2023, and Wednesday, 19 July 2023, scheduled banks located in the relevant election areas will remain closed.
- The essential departments of the main office of banks located in the Dhaka-17 election constituency of the National Parliament (if any) will remain open on a limited basis.
