FE Circular No. 11: Import and Export of Currency Notes and Coins

The Bangladesh Bank raises the limit for undeclared Bangladeshi currency that can be carried into the country from Tk 500 to Tk 2,000 per head. The limit for carrying declared Bangladeshi currency out of the country is also increased from Tk 500 to Tk 2,000. These changes amend the relevant provisions of the Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Transactions 2009.

To All Approved Dealer Banks of Foreign Exchange Transactions

Dear Sir,

Import and Export of Currency Notes.

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 8(1) of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947 and Government Notification No. AF 1(8)-AF/49 dated 2 May, 1949, the Bangladesh Bank has hereby increased the amount of Bangladeshi currency that is not admissible without declaration to the Customs Authority upon arrival in Bangladesh from the form prescribed by the Bangladesh Bank, from Tk 500/- to Tk 2,000/- per head, pursuant to the Notification No. FE-2/94-Bibh dated 12 November, 1994 of the Bangladesh Bank.

And in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 8(2) of the same Act, the limit for carrying Bangladeshi currency declared upon departure from Bangladesh, pursuant to Notification No. FE-1/94-Bibh dated 12 November, 1994 of the Bangladesh Bank, has also been increased from Tk 500/- to Tk 2,000/-.

  1. The instructions in paragraphs 1 and 9 of Chapter 6 of Volume I of the Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Transactions 2009 shall be deemed to be amended accordingly.
