The Foreign Exchange Operations Department of Bangladesh Bank has suspended the effectiveness of its August 1, 2011 circular regarding the 0.50% freight brokerage charge payable by shipping companies or agents to the Shippers Council of Bangladesh. This suspension is implemented for a period of three months in compliance with a stay order issued by the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on November 10, 2014, arising from Writ Petition No. 1875/2012. Authorized dealer banks are instructed to notify their respective branches of this directive.

Dear Sirs,
Regarding the payment of 0.50% Freight Brokerage Charge by Shipping Company/Shipping Agent to Shippers Council of Bangladesh (SCB).
Reference is drawn to your attention to Circular Letter No.-01 dated 01 August, 2011 of this department on the subject cited above.
In this regard, it is mentioned that, in light of the Writ Petition No.-1875/2012 filed in the High Court Division of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, the effectiveness of the said Circular Letter is hereby suspended for a further period of 03 (three) months in accordance with the stay order of the Hon'ble High Court dated 10 November, 2014.
It is advised to inform your respective Authorized Dealer branches regarding the above instructions.
