FEOD Circular Letter No. 01: Suspension of Payment of 0.50% Freight Brokerage Charge to Shippers Council of Bangladesh

The Foreign Exchange Operations Department of Bangladesh Bank suspends the operational validity of Circular Letter No. 01 dated August 1, 2011, regarding the payment of a 0.50% freight brokerage charge to the Shippers Council of Bangladesh by shipping companies or agents. This suspension is effective for four months following a stay order issued by the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on February 27, 2012, in relation to Writ Petition No. 1875/2012. Approved dealer banks are instructed to inform their respective branches of this directive.

Dear Sir,

Regarding the payment of 0.50% Freight Brokerage Charge to Shippers Council of Bangladesh (SCB) by Shipping Company/Shipping Agent.

Reference is drawn to Circular Letter No. 01 dated August 01, 2011 of this department on the subject cited above.

In this context, it is mentioned that in light of Writ Petition No. 1875/2012 filed before the High Court Division of the Honorable Supreme Court, the operational validity of the aforementioned Circular Letter has been suspended for 04 (four) months in accordance with the stay order of the Honorable High Court dated February 27, 2012.

It is advised to inform your respective approved dealer branches regarding the above instructions.
