The Foreign Exchange Operation Department of Bangladesh Bank suspends the operational validity of Circular Letter No. 01 dated August 1, 2011, regarding the 0.50% freight brokerage charge payable by shipping companies or agents to the Shippers Council of Bangladesh, for a period of eight weeks. This suspension follows a stay order issued by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2015, in Civil Miscellaneous Petition No. 116/2015. Authorized dealer banks are instructed to inform their relevant branches of this directive.

Dear Sir,
Regarding the payment of 0.50% Freight Brokerage Charge by Shipping Company/Shipping Agent to Shippers Council of Bangladesh (SCB).
Reference is drawn to Circular Letter No.-01 dated August 01, 2011 of this department on the subject cited above.
In this regard, it is mentioned that in the context of Civil Miscellaneous Petition No. 116/2015 arising from Writ Petition No.-1875/2012 before the High Court Division of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, the Appellate Division granted a stay order on the operational validity of the said Circular for 8 (eight) weeks on February 17, 2015. In light of this, the operational validity of the aforementioned Circular is hereby suspended for 8 (eight) weeks.
It is advised to inform your relevant approved dealer branches of the above instructions.
