Approved dealer banks are instructed not to establish any new Letters of Credit for the import of salt because the import quota of 100,000 metric tons of crude salt (HS Heading 25.01) set under Public Notification No. 36(2012-2015)/Import has been exceeded. This directive is issued in response to a memorandum from the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports dated September 8, 2015. Dealer branches and concerned importers must ensure strict compliance with these instructions.

Dear Sirs,
Regarding the establishment of any new Letter of Credit for the import of salt contrary to Public Notification No. 36(2012-2015)/Import, dated September 06, 2015.
We draw your attention to Memorandum No. 26.03.0000.001.11.001.13-147, dated 08/09/2015, from the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, concerning salt imports.
Under Public Notification No. 36(2012-2015)/Import, dated September 06, 2015, 1 (one) lakh metric tons of crude salt (HS Heading No. 25.01) was made importable. According to the information provided in the aforementioned memorandum, the said limit has been exceeded. Therefore, you are hereby instructed not to establish any new Letter of Credit for the import of the said product.
A copy of the aforementioned memorandum is enclosed herewith for your information and necessary action, to ensure proper compliance with the instructions of the said memorandum by Approved Dealer branches and concerned importers.
Please kindly inform all concerned parties about this matter.
