The Bangladesh Bank has amended the FMJ (Foreign Exchange Declaration) Form, increasing the amount of Bangladeshi currency that passengers can bring into or take out of the country without declaration to customs authorities from Taka 2000 to Taka 5000. This change applies to all Authorized Dealer Banks for foreign exchange transactions and all licensed Money Changer institutions. The circular also clarifies existing regulations regarding the declaration of foreign currency, specifying that no declaration is needed for amounts up to US$ 5000 or equivalent, and outlines rules for encashment and retention of foreign currency by resident and non-resident Bangladeshis. Additionally, it states that adult female passengers may carry any quantity of personal jewellery worn or as part of their baggage.

Circular No. 05 dated January 30, 2014, of this department regarding import and export of currency notes, and F.E. Circular No. 23 dated December 29, 2011, regarding amendment of FMJ Form. 02. In accordance with the instructions mentioned in the above-mentioned circulars issued regarding the import and export of currency notes, the amount of Bangladeshi currency that can be brought into Bangladesh from abroad without declaration to customs authorities in the form prescribed by Bangladesh Bank, and that can be carried out of Bangladesh, has been increased from Taka 2000/= to Taka 5000/=. Necessary amendments have been incorporated into the FMJ Form attached to F.E. Circular dated December 29, 2011. A sample of the amended FMJ Form (Passenger Copy) is attached herewith.
