The limit for incoming passengers to bring foreign currency into Bangladesh without declaration to Customs Authorities is enhanced from USD 5,000 to USD 10,000 or its equivalent. This change is implemented via Notification No. FE-1/2020-BB dated 03 February, 2020. Consequently, the relevant instructions contained in chapter 6 of the Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Transactions-2018 and on the FMJ Form are amended to reflect this new threshold.
Foreign Exchange Policy Department Bangladesh Bank Head Office Dhaka www.bb.org.bd FE Circular No. 06 Date: 03 February, 2020 All Authorized Dealers in Foreign Exchange and licensed money changers in Bangladesh Dear Sirs, Import and export of currency notes In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 8(1) of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947 and Government Notification No. F. 1(8)-EF/49 dated 2 May, 1949, Bangladesh Bank allowed incoming passengers to bring USD 5,000 or its equivalent without declaration to the Customs Authorities through Notification No. FE-1/09-BB dated 4 August, 2009. Foreign currency so brought in is permissible to be taken out while proceeding abroad by the concerned person. The relevant instructions are well articulated at paragraphs 1(A)(ii); 1(D), chapter 6 of the Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Transactions-2018 (GFET), Vol-1 and on FMJ Form (cf. Appendix 5/12). Bangladesh Bank vide Notification No. FE-1/2020-BB dated 03 February, 2020 (copy enclosed) has enhanced the limit to USD 10,000 or its equivalent from USD 5,000 or its equivalent. 02.
