The global limit for foreign exchange release for private travel by an adult Bangladeshi national is increased to USD 12,000 per calendar year, replacing previous regional caps of USD 5,000 for SAARC and Myanmar and USD 7,000 for other countries. Minors under 12 years of age remain eligible for half the adult entitlement, and the release of foreign exchange in the form of USD notes is capped at USD 5,000 per person within the total entitlement. These revised instructions apply to all Authorized Dealers in Foreign Exchange in Bangladesh and take effect from January 2020.
Foreign Exchange Policy Department Bangladesh Bank Head Office Dhaka www.bb.org.bd FE Circular No. 30 Date: July 25, 2019 All Authorized Dealers in Foreign Exchange in Bangladesh Dear Sirs, Release of foreign exchange for private travel abroad, revision of Please refer to paragraph 1(ii), chapter 12 of the Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Transactions-2018, Vol-1 in terms of which Authorized Dealers are allowed to release foreign exchange to an adult Bangladeshi national residing in Bangladesh during a calendar year upto USD 5,000 or equivalent for travel to SAARC member countries and Myanmar, and USD 7,000 or equivalent for travel to other countries. It has been decided to enhance private travel entitlement to USD 12,000 or equivalent per adult passenger during a calendar year from USD 5,000 and USD 7,000 for travel to SAARC member countries and Myanmar, and for travel to other countries respectively. In accordance with the decision, global limit of travel entitlement for an adult passenger shall stand at USD 12,000 during a calendar year without limiting to regions or countries of travel. For minors (below 12 years in age) the applicable quota, as before, will be half the amount admissible for adults. As usual, release of foreign exchange in the form of USD notes shall not exceed USD 5,000 per person within the entitlement.
