Dear Sir,
Regarding the opening of bank accounts for students under the School Banking Program.
Reference is drawn to your attention to GBSCR Circular No. 07 dated 28 October 2013 and FID Circular Letter No. 02 dated 04 November 2015.
Among the accounts opened under the School Banking Program, for those school banking accounts where the student's age has exceeded 18 years, steps must be taken to convert such accounts into general accounts with the consent of the account holder, in accordance with Clause 16.2 of the School Banking Guidelines issued through GBSCR Circular No. 07 dated 28 October 2013. Furthermore, for those scheduled banks that are providing banking services to various students through mobile financial services or disbursing government scholarships/fellowships, steps must be taken to open school banking accounts for such students under the purview of their banking accounts.
With reference to the aforementioned FID Circular Letter No. 02 dated 04 November 2015, it is requested to submit information on the progress of the School Banking Program to the Financial Inclusion Department on a quarterly basis according to the attached table replacing Annexure 'B' of that circular. The other instructions contained in the said circular letter shall remain unchanged.
Yours faithfully,
