The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) released its May 2026 business information for credit cards, cash cards, and electronic payment institutions, detailing market statuses and key financial figures. As of May 2026, credit card circulation reached approximately 59.71 million cards with NTD 420.2 billion in monthly spending, while cash card non-performing loan ratio stood at 0.895% with NTD 9.5 billion in outstanding loans. Electronic payment institutions reported approximately 203.06 million stored value cards in circulation and 40.77 million electronic payment account users, with monthly actual transaction payments totaling NTD 31.87 billion.

May 2026 Credit Card, Cash Card, and Electronic Payment Institution Business Information

I. Credit Card Business Market Status As of the end of May 2026, there are 32 credit card issuing institutions, with total cards in circulation approximately 59.71 million cards (approximately 59.58 million cards at the end of last month), and total active cards approximately 40.13 million cards (approximately 40.12 million cards at the end of last month). Revolving credit outstanding is approximately NTD (hereinafter the same) 115.4 billion (approximately 116.5 billion at the end of last month); outstanding installment payments not yet due are approximately 162.0 billion (approximately 165.7 billion at the end of last month); monthly spending is approximately 420.2 billion, an increase of approximately 4.3 billion compared to 415.9 billion last month; monthly write-off of bad debts is approximately 0.54 billion (approximately 0.56 billion last month). The average ratio of accounts overdue for more than 3 months to accounts receivable outstanding (including overdue collections) was 0.23% (similar to the end of last month) (See Appendix 1).
II. Cash Card Business Market Status As of the end of May 2026, there are 13 financial institutions handling cash card business. The number of cards with utilized credit is approximately 0.27 million cards (similar to the end of last month), overall cash card loan outstanding (including overdue collections) is approximately 9.5 billion (similar to the end of last month), monthly write-off of bad debts is approximately 20 million (similar to last month), and the overall non-performing loan ratio was 0.895% (0.912% at the end of last month) (See Appendix 2).
III. Electronic Payment Institution Business Market Status As of the end of May 2026, there are 10 dedicated electronic payment institutions and 19 concurrent electronic payment institutions (including banks and Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd.).
(I) Stored Value Cards (formerly Electronic Tickets):
Total cards in circulation approximately 203.06 million cards (approximately 202.38 million cards at the end of last month), an increase of approximately 0.68 million cards from last month; monthly consumer cards approximately 13.79 million cards (approximately 13.64 million cards last month), an increase of approximately 0.15 million cards from last month; monthly consumption amount approximately 6.6 billion (approximately 6.35 billion last month), an increase of approximately 0.25 billion from last month; total stored value outstanding approximately 15.99 billion (approximately 15.95 billion at the end of last month), an increase of approximately 0.04 billion from last month (See Appendix 3).
(II) Electronic Payment Accounts:
Total electronic payment account users approximately 40.77 million people (approximately 40.38 million people at the end of last month), an increase of approximately 0.39 million people from last month; monthly amount of funds collected and paid for actual transactions approximately 31.87 billion (approximately 28.99 billion last month), an increase of approximately 2.88 billion from last month; monthly amount of domestic and international small-value remittances approximately 17.12 billion (approximately 15.85 billion last month) an increase of approximately 1.27 billion from last month; monthly amount of stored value received approximately 31.71 billion (approximately 29.7 billion last month), an increase of approximately 2.01 billion from last month; payment outstanding approximately 21.1 billion (approximately 19.04 billion at the end of last month), an increase of approximately 2.06 billion from last month (See Appendix 4).
IV. Important business and financial information for credit cards, cash cards, stored value cards, and electronic payment accounts for May 2026 is detailed in Appendices 5 to 8. Trend charts for the overall overdue account (loan) ratios (accounts overdue for more than 3 months) for credit cards and cash cards are detailed in Appendices 9 and 10.
