MPD Circular No. 01: Maintenance of Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) with Bangladesh Bank

The Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) maintained by all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh with Bangladesh Bank is raised from 5.00 percent to 5.50 percent on a bi-weekly average basis, with a minimum daily requirement of 5.00 percent. This change is effective from May 15, 2010, pursuant to Section 36(1) of the Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972.

Bangladesh Bank Head Office Motijheel, Dhaka-1000 Bangladesh Monetary Policy Department MPD Circular No.-01 Date: Chief Executives All Scheduled Banks operating in Bangladesh Dear Sir, Maintenance of Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) with Bangladesh Bank At present, all scheduled banks in Bangladesh have to maintain 5.00 percent CRR with Bangladesh Bank on the bi-weekly average basis with a provision of minimum 4.50 percent on the daily basis of their average total demand and time liabilities. However, with a view to attaining the objectives of monetary policy, it has been decided that the above mentioned CRR shall be maintained at 5.50 percent on bi-weekly average basis with a provision of minimum 5.00 percent on a daily basis effective from May 15, 2010. Bangladesh Bank Head Office Motijheel, Dhaka-1000 Bangladesh Monetary Policy Department No. - MPD-116/2010-498 Date: Notification In exercise of the power conferred in Section 36(1) of Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972 (P. O. No. 127 of 1972) the amount of cash reserve with Bangladesh Bank required to be maintained by all scheduled banks operated in Bangladesh has been raised to 5.5 (five and half) percent from 5.00 (five) percent.
