The Central Bank of Luxembourg announces new euro coin designs featuring Grand Duke Guillaume, following his accession to the throne on October 3, 2025. These new coins, designed by Chiara Principe, will enter circulation on July 13, 2026, while all previous Luxembourgish euro coins remain legal tender. Collectors can acquire the new coins through the BCL's Numismatic Space, by phone or email order, or via the BCL eshop.

NEW LUXEMBOURGISH EURO COINS THE VISUAL OF THE 8 NEW COINS The design of Luxembourgish euro coins changes following the accession to the throne of H.R.H. Grand Duke Guillaume on October 3, 2025. Both the new and old Luxembourgish euro coins are legal tender. The circulation date for the new euro coins is July 13, 2026. As the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has a new Sovereign, all 1 cent to 2 euro coins minted with the 2026 vintage feature a new design. For each group of coins (1 to 5 cents, 10 to 50 cents, 1 and 2 euros), a new design was created by Ms. Chiara Principe, an artist specializing in the graphic design of circulation and collector coins. 1, 2 AND 5 CENTS The national side of the 1, 2, and 5 cent coins depicts, on the left, a partial effigy of Grand Duke Guillaume looking to the left. To the right of the effigy, the word "LËTZEBUERG" indicates the issuing country, from bottom to top. On the right, a stylized version of the Luxembourgish flag is represented. The year of issue appears in the center, horizontally. Opposite the effigy, a stylized version of the Luxembourgish flag is represented on the left side of the coin. The word "LËTZEBUERG" indicates the issuing country in an ascending semicircle to the left of the flag. The year of issue appears at the bottom right of the effigy. 1 AND 2 EUROS The national side of the 1 and 2 euro coins depicts, on the right, the effigy of Grand Duke Guillaume looking to the left. Opposite the effigy is the inscription of the issuing country "LËTZEBUERG" read vertically. A stylized and partial representation of the Luxembourgish Lion is reproduced to the left of the inner part of the coin. The year of issue appears in the lower third, between the word "LËTZEBUERG" and the effigy. The portrait of the Grand Duke is depicted in full and in profile. A modern version of the Luxembourgish Lion was specifically created by the artist. IMPORTANT INFORMATION All Luxembourgish coins issued since 2002 with the effigy of H.R.H. Grand Duke Henri and minted with different vintages retain their legal tender status. This applies to both regular circulation coins and 2 euro commemorative coins and euro collector coins issued by Luxembourg. The coins bearing the effigy of H.R.H. Grand Duke Guillaume, minted for circulation and with the 2026 vintage, were produced by the Monnaie de Paris. ORDERING COINS BEARING THE EFFIGY OF GRAND DUKE GUILLAUME Since 2003, the Central Bank of Luxembourg has established a dedicated service for coin collectors. The BCL offers different alternatives for obtaining the new coins bearing the effigy of Grand Duke Guillaume: 1 The Numismatic Space located at 43 avenue Monterey in Luxembourg is open Monday to Friday from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM. 2 An order for numismatic products can be placed either by phone (+352 4774-4774) or by email (coins@bcl.lu), specifying the delivery address and contact details such as phone number or email. An order paid by bank transfer can then be sent to the delivery address or picked up at the Numismatic Space (see previous point). 3 The eshop website (www.apieceofluxembourg.lu or https://eshop.bcl.lu) also allows viewing and purchasing BCL numismatic products.
