PI-MAF-DIR-01-2017 – Gym Rebates and other Wellness Benefits Provided by Medical Aid Funds

The NAMFISA Board of Appeal struck and substituted paragraphs 5.3 and 5.4 of Directive PI/MAF/DIR/01/2017, directing registered medical aid funds to comply with Section 1 of the Medical Aid Funds Act with immediate effect. This directive nullifies the previous compliance deadline of 31 December 2018. The Registrar requires full cooperation from all medical aid funds and stakeholders regarding this immediate compliance obligation.

Namibian Association of Medical Aid Funds (NAMAF) Administrators of all registered Medical Aid Funds Chairperson of the NAMFISA Appeal Board

SUBJECT : GYM REBATES AND OTHER WELLNESS BENEFITS PROVIDED BY MEDICAL AID FUNDS

  1. This Directive is issued pursuant to the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority’s (“NAMFISA”) Board of Appeal judgement which was delivered on 14 December 2017, in relation to the appeal lodged against Directive PI/MAF/DIR/01/2017 (attached hereto for ease of reference) insofar as Funds were given until 31 December 2018 to comply with the aforementioned Directive.

  2. By order of the NAMFISA Board of Appeal, paragraphs 5.3 and 5.4 of the aforementioned Directive is struck and substituted with the following:

“5.3. That the medical aid funds are herewith directed to comply with Section 1 of the Medical Aid Funds Act, with immediate effect.”

  1. The Registrar therefore requires full cooperation and support in this process by all medical aid funds and stakeholders at large.
