PSD Circular No. 04: Disbursement of Cash Assistance for 50 Lac Distressed Families through MFS

The Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank directs all scheduled banks and mobile financial service providers to ensure uninterrupted transactions for the government's cash assistance program. This program provides a one-time cash aid of 2,500 Taka to 500,000 poor families via Mobile Financial Services (MFS). Providers are instructed to open MFS accounts based on National ID numbers from the Ministry of Finance's beneficiary list and to ensure adequate cash supply at agent points for successful distribution.

Dear Sir,

Regarding the uninterrupted service of Government Revenue and Expenditure Transfer System (GRET) for the disbursement of cash assistance for 500,000 distressed families.

In the situation arising from the Corona virus pandemic, the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has decided to provide cash assistance directly to the mobile accounts of the beneficiaries for 500,000 distressed families. In this regard, you are hereby instructed to take the following measures to ensure uninterrupted service of the Government Revenue and Expenditure Transfer System (GRET):

  1. Ensure uninterrupted transactions by all banks or their subsidiary companies providing Government Revenue and Expenditure Transfer System (GRET); and

  2. The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has decided to provide a one-time cash assistance of Two Thousand Five Hundred (2,500.00) Taka each to 500,000 poor families across the country through Government Revenue and Expenditure Transfer System (GRET) due to the outbreak and infection of the Corona virus. In order to take necessary measures to open Mobile Financial Service accounts by verifying the National ID number (NID) of the beneficiaries provided by the Ministry of Finance for the disbursement of cash assistance, and simultaneously to ensure the supply of necessary cash amounts at agent points for the successful completion of the cash assistance distribution program, instructions are given to Government Revenue and Expenditure Transfer System (GRET) providers.

This matter is of utmost importance.
