Scheduled banks in Bangladesh, including Bangladesh Bank, are required to observe 24 public holidays during 2011 as specified by Government Notification No. 05.173.008.09.00.001.2010-437 dated 24 October 2010. The designated holidays include Eid-e-Miladun-Nabi on 16 February, Shahid Day and International Mother Language Day on 21 February, Independence Day on 26 March, and Christmas Day on 25 December, among others. Several dates marked with an asterisk, such as Eid-ul-Fitr (30 August–1 September) and Eid-ul-Azha (6–8 November), are subject to the appearance of the moon. Two specific bank holidays are also scheduled for 1 July and 31 December.
