SMESPD Circular Letter No. 01: Regarding Selection of SME Lead Bank
The Department of SME and Special Programs extends the validity of the existing 2021 calendar for the selection of SME Lead Banks until further notice. Scheduled banks and financial institutions are instructed to continue following the current calendar and reporting guidelines. Additionally, they must submit reports on SME Lead Bank activities to the department and relevant Bangladesh Bank branch offices within 15 days after the end of each quarter.

Reference is drawn to your attention to SMESPD Circular No. 01 dated January 24, 2021, on the subject matter.

Through the aforementioned circular, one bank each from government and private sectors was designated as the SME Lead Bank for each district, and a district-wise SME Lead Bank calendar for the fiscal year 2021 was prepared. Simultaneously, instructions were issued to perform duties according to the designated calendar while defining necessary provisions regarding the SME Lead Bank. Now, in order to keep the SME Lead Bank program ongoing, it has been decided to keep the currently designated calendar for the fiscal year 2021 valid until further notice.

In this context, you are advised to follow the current SME Lead Bank calendar and other instructions until further notice. Simultaneously, instructions are issued to submit reports on Lead Bank-related activities to this Department and the concerned branch offices of Bangladesh Bank within 15 days after the end of each quarter, according to the attached details.

This instruction is issued under the powers granted by Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991, and Section 18 of the Financial Institution Act, 1993. This instruction shall come into force immediately.
