The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Iceland has decided to raise the Bank’s key interest rate by 0.25 percentage points, setting the rate on seven-day term deposits at 8.00%. Four Committee members voted in favour of the decision, while one voted to keep rates unchanged. The decision was made in light of inflation exceeding 5% in 2026 and high inflation expectations, with the Committee considering the increase appropriate to ensure sufficient monetary restraint.
