BRPD Circular Letter No. 08: Performance Evaluation of Women Employees during Maternity Leave

The Bangladesh Bank advises all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh to consider the previous year's or the best average of the previous three years' performance evaluations when assessing the annual performance of female employees who took maternity leave. This directive addresses the issue where women employees are not accurately evaluated during their maternity leave period, which hinders their professional development and empowerment. The guidance is issued in the context of previous circulars and government orders that increased maternity leave to six months.

Ref No.: BRPD-08 Banking Regulation and Policy Department Bangladesh Bank Head Office Dhaka. June 17, 2015 BRPD Circular Letter No.- 08 Date: ---------------- Ashar 3, 1422 Managing Director / Chief Executive All Scheduled Banks operating in Bangladesh. Dear Sir, Regarding Performance Evaluation of Women Employees during Maternity Leave. We draw your attention to BRPD Circular Letter No.-01, dated: March 28, 2013, regarding Maternity Leave. Through the aforementioned circular letter, based on S.R.O. No.-05/ File No.-07.175.008.00.00.001.2000/Law/2011 dated January 09, 2011, issued by the Ministry of Establishment, you were instructed to include in your bank's Human Resource Management Policy the matter of increasing the maternity leave period for women employees working in your bank to 6 (six) months. Nearly half of the total population of Bangladesh is female. The contribution of women to national economic development is undeniable. The Government of Bangladesh is working for the development and empowerment of women. As a result, success has been achieved in various fields of women's development, including women's education. The participation of women in various professions is increasing day by day, and the participation of women in the banking sector is also remarkable. However, it is observed that often the true and proper performance of women employees working in banks is not evaluated due to being on maternity leave, which is an obstacle in the path of women's development, progress, and empowerment. In this context, you are advised to consider the previous year's or the best average of the previous three years' annual performance evaluation when evaluating the annual performance of female employees working in your bank who took maternity leave. Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration. Yours faithfully, (Rup Ratan Pain) Deputy General Manager Phone: 9530336
