Dear Sir,

Reference is drawn to your attention to BRPD Circular No. 11 dated 10 June 2021 on the subject cited above.

2. Through the aforementioned circular, instructions are provided regarding various charges/fees/commissions imposed by banks. It has been observed that customers are being discouraged from purchasing foreign currency because banks, through their Authorized Dealer (AD) branches, are collecting Passport Endorsement Fee/Charges at different rates for the sale of foreign currency, in addition to separately collecting Service Fee/Charge/Commission.

3. Now, in order to encourage the purchase of foreign currency through domestic channels, the following instructions are to be followed regarding the collection of Passport Endorsement Fee/Charges and Service Fee/Charge/Commission during the sale of foreign currency by banks:

a) A maximum of 300/- Taka may be collected as Endorsement Fee/Charge;

b) No additional fee/charge/commission of any name, other than the Endorsement Fee/Charge, such as Service Fee/Charge/Commission, shall be collected.

4. These instructions are issued under the powers conferred by Section 45 of the Companies Act, 1991.

5. These instructions shall come into force immediately.
