BRPD Circular Letter No. 30: Taking Measures to Prevent Dengue

1. In recent times, there has been an increase in the prevalence of Dengue across the country, including Dhaka. A significant number of Dengue patients are being admitted to hospitals daily, and some are dying. Due to reasons such as indiscriminate dumping of garbage, seasonal rainfall, stagnant water, and changes in microclimate, the breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes are expanding. Consequently, it is of special importance to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and increase public awareness to prevent Dengue.

2. Now, in addition to raising awareness to prevent Dengue, you are hereby instructed to take the following measures for the safety of bank staff/employees and customers:

a) Steps must be taken to regularly clean and maintain all centers of the bank, including the Head Office, branches/sub-branches/agent outlets/training centers/ATM booths, and surrounding areas where Aedes mosquitoes may spread. Breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, i.e., containers/places where water accumulates such as discarded flower pots, unused buckets, discarded tires, plastic bottles, etc., must be destroyed. Other areas such as building roofs, garages, ACs, refrigerators, water tanks, kitchens, etc., must be kept hygienically clean.

b) In addition to office buildings, the bank must take necessary measures to ensure cleanliness in residential premises for bank staff/employees and to raise awareness on this matter.

c) Mosquito repellent drugs, sprays, or coils must be used regularly in bank offices and adjacent areas; and

d) The bank must provide necessary cooperation to institutions responsible for ensuring cleanliness in villages/towns/cities, such as Municipalities/Union Parishads/City Corporations, regarding the measures taken by them.

3. These instructions are issued under the powers granted by Section 45 of the Companies Act, 1991.
