Central Bank of Jordan Circular No. 4/2024 Regarding Working Hours During Ramadan 2024

The Central Bank of Jordan mandates that licensed banks reduce their official working hours to 9:30 AM–3:00 PM and public counter services to 10:00 AM–2:30 PM during Ramadan 2024. The circular specifies precise operating windows for the RTGS-JO system, Jordanian Dinar deposit receipts, and the Bankers' Fund, requiring strict adherence to these times. Banks may voluntarily extend hours for customer service but must notify the regulator in advance and revert to standard schedules after the holy month.

Greetings,

On the occasion of the approaching holy month of Ramadan, please be informed of the following:

  1. The official working hours for licensed banks throughout this blessed month shall be from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

  2. Public counter services shall operate from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

  3. The daily working hours for the Real-Time Gross Settlement System - Jordan (RTGS-JO) shall be as follows: a. The period for exchanging bilateral transfers between members begins at 9:45 AM and ends at 2:45 PM. b. The receipt of netting files from retail payment systems for settlement on the system begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 2:42 PM. c. The liquidity period begins at 2:45 PM and ends at 3:15 PM. During this period, transfer orders may only be processed to cover pending orders in the queue or existing daytime repurchase operations. d. The working day in the system ends at 3:15 PM.

  4. The deadline for receiving deposits in the Jordanian Dinar deposit window is from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

  1. The Bankers' Fund at the Central Bank begins dealing with licensed banks for cash withdrawal and deposit purposes from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Strict adherence to the specified times is requested due to their utmost importance.

  2. Banks are permitted, at their discretion, to extend official working hours and/or evening hours during the month of Ramadan to provide banking services to customers, provided that the bank returns to its regular schedule after the end of the blessed month. We emphasize the necessity of notifying us in advance regarding working hours during this month and the names of branches/offices whose hours will be extended.
