CIRCULAR 9/2025 Mexico City, December 8, 2025.

SUBJECT: Circulation of one, two, and five peso coins with new alloys in their metallic composition.

TO CREDIT INSTITUTIONS:

The Bank of Mexico, based on the provisions of Articles 28, paragraphs seventh and eighth, of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States; Articles 2nd, 3rd, fraction I, 4th, 24, paragraphs first and second, and 25 of the Bank of Mexico Law; Article 48 of the Credit Institutions Law; Articles 1st, 4th, paragraphs first and fourth, 8th, paragraphs fourth and eighth, 10, paragraph first, 16 Bis, fraction II, and 17, fraction I, of the Internal Regulations of the Bank of Mexico; Second, fractions III and X, of the Agreement on the Affiliation of the Administrative Units of the Bank of Mexico; as well as the Decree that reforms and adds various provisions of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States and establishes the characteristics of five, ten, twenty, and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five, and ten peso coins, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 22, 1992, and the “Resolution establishing the alloy to be used in the metallic composition of the central part of one, two, and five peso coins,” published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on July 11, 2024, has resolved to put into circulation one, two, and five peso coins with new alloys in their metallic composition.

The coins subject to this communication will coexist with coins of the same denominations put into circulation since January 1, 1996, which will be identified with the same keys as the current ones and will contain the same number of coins per bag, namely: for the one peso coin, key 775 will be used and the content per bag will be 2,000 pieces; for the two peso coin, key 782 will be used and the content per bag will be 2,000 pieces; and for the five peso coin, key 790 will be used and the content of each bag will be 1,200 pieces.

The one, two, and five peso coins put into circulation since January 1, 1996, maintain the liberatory power stated in Article 5 of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States.

Likewise, it is important to reiterate that, starting from December 8, 2025, the Bank of Mexico may deliver, in metal coin withdrawals of the one, two, and five peso denominations, interchangeably, coins with the new alloy or the previous one. Credit institutions may make deposits at the Bank of Mexico combining coins of different

alloys, as long as they are of the same denomination, as indicated in Circular 3/2025, Provisions on cash operations, agency services, and handling of presumably counterfeit or altered coins.

Finally, this circular will enter into force on this same date.
