Circular 9/2025 — Circulation of One, Two, and Five Peso Coins with New Alloy Compositions
The Bank of Mexico authorizes the circulation of one, two, and five peso coins featuring new metallic alloy compositions, which will coexist with coins issued since January 1, 1996. Effective December 8, 2025, the Bank may deliver coins with either the new or previous alloys, and credit institutions may deposit mixed alloys provided they are of the same denomination. The previous coins retain their legal tender status under Article 5 of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States.
