Resolution Establishing the Alloy for the Central Metallic Composition of One, Two, and Five Peso Coins

RESOLUTION establishing the alloy to be used in the metallic composition of the central part of one, two, and five peso coins.

RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE ALLOY TO BE USED IN THE METALLIC COMPOSITION OF THE CENTRAL PART OF ONE, TWO, AND FIVE PESO COINS.

Based on the provisions of Article 2, subsection b), of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States;

Article THREE of the Decree that reforms and adds various provisions to the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States and establishes the characteristics of five, ten, twenty, and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five, and ten peso coins, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 22, 1992;

and Article 6, fraction XXXVI of the Internal Regulations of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit;

AND CONSIDERING

That on June 22, 1992, the Decree that reforms and adds various provisions to the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States and establishes the characteristics of five, ten, twenty, and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five, and ten peso coins was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation;

That in accordance with Article 2, subsection b), of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States, if the relevant decrees provide for optional alloys for the composition of metallic coins, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, upon proposal by the Bank of Mexico, shall determine their metallic composition by selecting one of the alloys established in the respective Decree. The corresponding Resolution must be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation;

That the Governing Board of the Bank of Mexico, through agreement JG/2023/637/2 in its session held on December 15, 2023, resolved to propose to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit that the metallic composition of the center of the one, two, and five peso coins referred to in Article 2 of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States be substituted from the aluminum bronze alloy currently used to steel coated with bronze, starting from the 2025 fiscal year;

And that this Ministry has considered that the metallic composition of the center of the one, two, and five peso coins proposed by the Bank of Mexico is the most appropriate.

In view of the foregoing, I have deemed it appropriate to issue the following:

RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE ALLOY TO BE USED IN THE METALLIC COMPOSITION OF THE CENTRAL PART OF ONE, TWO, AND FIVE PESO COINS

FIRST. - The alloys to which the metallic composition of the central part of ONE, TWO, and FIVE PESO coins will be subject are as follows:

Alloy	Central Part
ONE PESO	Steel coated with bronze
TWO PESOS	Steel coated with bronze
FIVE PESOS	Steel coated with bronze

SECOND. - The aforementioned alloy has been considered by this Ministry as the most appropriate among the options included in Article THREE of the Decree that reforms and adds various provisions to the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States and establishes the characteristics of five, ten, twenty, and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five, and ten peso coins, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 22, 1992, taking into consideration the proposal of the Governing Board of the Bank of Mexico, adopted in its session held on December 15, 2023.

TRANSITORY PROVISIONS

FIRST. - This Resolution shall enter into force on the next business day following its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

SECOND. - The coins referred to in this Resolution may begin to be minted starting from the 2025 fiscal year, once the corresponding technical adjustments have been made.

THIRD. - The one, two, and five peso coins provided for in this Resolution, whose characteristics are modified, will continue to have the liberatory power indicated in Article 5 of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States until they are withdrawn from circulation by the Bank of Mexico.
