Circular to Credit Institutions on Amendments to the Reporting Template on Correspondent Banking Payment Transactions

The Maltese Financial Services Authority has issued a circular requiring credit institutions to adopt a revised reporting template for correspondent banking payment transactions. The amendments introduce mandatory data quality checks and replace drop-down menus with explicit columns for operational currencies to enhance data consistency and completeness. Institutions must implement these changes for all reports with a reference date on or after June 2026.

Circular Triq l-Imdina, Zone 1 Central Business District, Birkirkara CBD 1010 +356 2144 1155 communications@mfsa.mt www.mfsa.mt Circular to Credit Institutions on Amendments to the Reporting Template on Correspondent Banking Payment Transactions Reference is made to the Circular issued by the Authority to Credit Institutions on Reporting on Correspondent Banking Payment Transactions, dated 15 March 2022. The Authority is hereby informing credit institutions that the reporting template for the submission of information on correspondent banking payment transactions has been revised. The amendments are intended to improve the consistency, completeness, and overall quality of the data reported to the Authority. Credit institutions are required to make use of the revised reporting template as from the June 2026 reference date onwards. The key amendments to the reporting template include: • A set of data quality checks has been incorporated in the tab entitled “Checks”. Institutions are expected to perform these checks prior to the submission of the reporting template to the Authority to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data reported. • All operational currencies, in both the Inward and Outward reporting tabs, have been incorporated as columns within the template rather than being selectable through drop-down menus. • The placeholder text “please select correspondent entity” and “please select country”, previously included in each row under Columns B and C respectively has been removed, while the drop-down selection functionality remains available. The Authority reminds credit institutions that no structural changes are to be made to the reporting template as provided. No other amendments have been introduced to this reporting requirement apart from the revised reporting template. For any further clarification, institutions may contact the Authority at Bankingdata@mfsa.mt. 28 April 2026
