DFIM Circular Letter No. 06: Duration of Maternity Leave

Financial Institutions and Markets Department of Bangladesh Bank requires all authorized institutions operating in Bangladesh to incorporate a six-month maternity leave period into their human resource management policies for female employees. Institutions must obtain approval from their Board of Directors for these policies and submit them to the department by August 30, 2013. This directive implements the government's SRO No. 05/Doc No. 07.175.008.08.00.001.2000/Law/2011 dated January 09, 2011, and takes effect immediately.

To, Chief Executive/Managing Director, All Authorized Institutions Operating in Bangladesh.

Dear Sir,

Regarding the determination of the duration of maternity leave.

Reference is drawn to your attention to DFIM Circular Letter No. 04 dated February 10, 2011, on the subject above.

In light of S.R.O. No. 05/Doc No. 07.175.008.08.00.001.2000/Law/2011 (Copy Attached) issued by the Labor Department of the Ministry of Labor, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, dated January 09, 2011, you are directed to incorporate the provision of six (6) months of maternity leave for female employees/workers in your institution into the institution's human resource management policy.

In this regard, you are directed to formulate the policy after obtaining the approval of the institution's Board of Directors and submit it to this department by August 30, 2013.

This directive shall take effect immediately.
