DOS Circular Letter No. 25: Opening of Branches on 03 October 2014 for Garment Industry Salary Payments

To: The Chief Executive Officers All Bank Companies Operating in Bangladesh.

Dear Sir,

Reference is made to the context of keeping the relevant branches of scheduled banks open on Friday, 03 October 2014, to facilitate the payment of salaries, bonuses, and other allowances to workers/clerks employed in the ready-made garments (RMG) industry. It is hereby drawn to your attention that, in accordance with DOS Circular Letter No. 18 dated 07/12/2006, the AD branches of commercial banks located at airports, sea/river ports, and land ports are currently instructed to remain open on Fridays and Saturdays, while the AD branches of commercial banks located elsewhere in the country may remain open on Saturdays at their discretion.

2. Now, in light of government instructions, appropriate measures must be taken to complete the payment of salaries, bonuses, and other allowances to workers and clerks employed in the garment industry by 02 October 2014, i.e., before the Durga Puja and Eid-ul-Adha holidays (04-07 October 2014).

3. However, if it is not possible to pay salaries and allowances during this period due to any specific unavoidable reason, it is advised that only the RMG-related branches of scheduled banks located in the garment industry areas of Dhaka Metropolitan City, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Narayanganj, and Chittagong be kept open on Friday, 03 October 2014, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, after ensuring necessary security arrangements.

4. It is also advised that you provide reasonable allowances to clerks/employees who join office for work on 03 October 2014, as it is a weekly holiday.
