Freedom of Information Act 2011

The Freedom of Information Act 2011 establishes a general right for any person to access records held by public institutions without demonstrating a specific interest. Public institutions are required to maintain records, publish specific organizational and operational information, and respond to access applications within seven days, with limited extensions permitted for complex requests. The Act defines exemptions for information affecting international affairs, defense, law enforcement, personal privacy, and third-party commercial interests, while mandating the disclosure of non-exempt portions of records. It imposes criminal penalties, including fines and imprisonment, for the destruction or falsification of records and allows for judicial review of denied access requests.
