Resolution Establishing the Alloy for the Central Metallic Composition of the Ten-Peso Coin

The Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit establishes that the central metallic composition of the ten-peso coin shall be nickel-plated steel, replacing the previously used silver-colored alloy. This change is effective upon publication in the Official Gazette, with minting commencing in the 2026 fiscal year after technical adjustments. Coins currently in circulation retain their legal tender status until withdrawn by the Bank of Mexico.

RESOLUTION by which the alloy to be used in the metallic composition of the central part of the ten-peso coin is established

RESOLUTION BY WHICH THE ALLOY TO BE USED IN THE METALLIC COMPOSITION OF THE CENTRAL PART OF THE TEN-PESO COIN IS ESTABLISHED.

Based on the provisions of Article 2, subsection b), second and third paragraphs, of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States; the Sole Article of the Decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on January 19, 2026, which modifies Article Third of the "Decree by which various provisions of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States are reformed and added and the characteristics of five, ten, twenty and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five and ten peso coins are specified," published on June 22, 1992 in the Official Gazette of the Federation, only with respect to the ten-peso coin; and Article 6, subsection XXXVI, of the Internal Regulations of the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit, and

CONSIDERING

That on June 22, 1992, the Decree that reformed and added various provisions of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States and specified the characteristics of five, ten, twenty and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five and ten peso coins was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation;

That in accordance with Article 2, subsection b), of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States, ten-peso metal coins, among others, shall have the diameters, metallic composition, dies and other characteristics specified in the relevant decrees, and that when these provide for optional alloys for the composition of metal coins, the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit, upon proposal by the Bank of Mexico, shall determine their metallic composition by specifying one of the alloys established in the respective decree, and that the corresponding Resolution must be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation;

That on January 19, 2026, the Decree by which Article Third of the "Decree by which various provisions of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States are reformed and added and the characteristics of five, ten, twenty and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five and ten peso coins are specified," published on June 22, 1992 in the Official Gazette of the Federation, was modified, only with respect to the ten-peso coin, was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, approved by the Congress of the Union, promulgated and issued by the Head of the Federal Executive Power;

That the Board of Directors of the Bank of Mexico, through agreement JG/2026/720/1 in its session held on February 27, 2026, approved proposing to the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit that the metallic composition of the center of the ten-peso coins referred to in Article 2, subsection b), of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States, be substituted from the silver-colored alloy currently used, to nickel-plated steel, starting in 2026, and

That this Secretariat has considered that the metallic composition of the center of the ten-peso coins proposed by the Bank of Mexico is the most appropriate.

In view of the foregoing, I have deemed it appropriate to issue the following:

RESOLUTION BY WHICH THE ALLOY TO BE USED IN THE METALLIC COMPOSITION OF THE CENTRAL PART OF THE TEN-PESO COINS IS DETERMINED

FIRST. The alloy to which the metallic composition of the central part of the TEN PESO coins shall be subject, shall be nickel-plated steel.

SECOND. The aforementioned alloy has been considered by this Secretariat as the most appropriate among the options included in the Sole Article of the Decree by which Article Third of the "Decree by which various provisions of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States are reformed and added and the characteristics of five, ten, twenty and fifty centavo coins and one, two, five and ten peso coins are specified," published on June 22, 1992, in the Official Gazette of the Federation, only with respect to the ten-peso coin, published in said medium of dissemination on January 19, 2026 and taking into consideration the proposal of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Mexico, adopted in its session of February 27, 2026.

TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS

FIRST. - This Resolution shall enter into force on the next business day following its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

SECOND. - The ten-peso coins referred to in this Resolution may begin to be minted starting in the 2026 fiscal year, once the corresponding technical adjustments are made.

THIRD. - The ten-peso coins, whose metallic composition is substituted by virtue of this Resolution, shall continue to have the liberatory power indicated in Article 5 of the Monetary Law of the United Mexican States, until they are withdrawn from circulation by the Bank of Mexico.
