WARNING: Investment Fraud Utilizing the Image and Data of CNPF-Authorized Companies

The National Financial Supervisory Authority (CNPF) of Moldova warns the public against sophisticated online investment fraud schemes that impersonate authorized entities and public figures using deepfakes, cloned websites, and sponsored social media ads. The regulator mandates that consumers verify all investment offers exclusively through official CNPF-authorized channels, refuse unsolicited contact or remote device access, and immediately report suspicious activities to law enforcement or the CNPF. It further clarifies that only licensed entities may legally provide banking or investment services in Moldova, and unlicensed interactions void consumers from legal protections or compensation mechanisms.

The National Financial Supervisory Authority (CNPF) warns against online fraud attempts via fake investment platforms that use the names and images of authorized entities and public figures to create an impression of legitimacy. Scammers use sponsored advertisements on social media networks (Facebook, Instagram) promising unrealistic profits.

How it works:

They use the logos, colors, and names of CNPF-authorized companies to mislead users.

They use falsified images or videos (deepfakes) of public figures who “recommend” the platform.

They clone official websites or create web pages that imitate financial institutions or news portals.

By accessing links in advertisements, you are directed to fake “investment advisory” groups on platforms such as Telegram or WhatsApp.

In some cases, you are asked to install applications or remote access programs that are actually specifically designed to compromise your device or steal your data.

Signs of possible fraud:

Promotion via “Sponsored Ads” that suddenly appear in news feeds, coming from Facebook pages with names similar to official ones but unverified.

Messages that invoke partnerships with public authorities or political figures.

Requests for money transfers or banking data outside of official and secure channels.

Unsolicited contacts (calls, emails, messages) urging you to invest urgently.

CNPF recommends:

Do not access advertisements that promise miraculous gains through various investment schemes.

Verify the offer on the official website of the mentioned entities by typing the address directly into the browser, not via links in advertisements.

Do not provide banking data for offers that seem “too good to be true”.

Do not allow anyone remote access to your mobile phone or computer (via apps like AnyDesk, LogMeIn, etc.) for “help” or “technical support”. These can expose your device to malware and allow unauthorized access to personal or banking data.

Report it! If you see such advertisements, report them to the platform (Facebook/Instagram) under the “Scam/Fraud” category.

Verify here the list of entities authorized by CNPF. If an entity is not found on the list, do not assume it is legitimate.

Note:

State institutions and public figures do not promote investment platforms or entities, and will never contact you to request money, personal data, or banking details.

According to national legislation, any entity conducting banking activities or providing investment financial services in the Republic of Moldova must hold an authorization or license issued by the competent authorities.

If you interact with unauthorized entities, consumers do not benefit from legal framework protection and are not eligible for compensation from existing protection or compensation mechanisms.

Consumers are urged to report any such attempts to law enforcement agencies and/or CNPF.
