The Riksbank establishes rules for redeeming damaged, worn, altered, and withdrawn banknotes, as well as commemorative and worn coins, based on conditions regarding ownership and illicit origin. A processing fee of 200 SEK is charged per case for redeeming banknotes that are no longer legal tender. The Riksbank retains the right to keep submitted banknotes and coins even if redemption is denied, and these rules entered into force on October 1, 2020, repealing the 2017:1 regulations for new cases.
