BANK OF MOZAMBIQUE NOTICE No. 3/GGBM/2006

SUBJECT: Introduction of Notes and Coins of the New Family Metical

The current legislation attributes to the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique the competence to decide on the characteristics and face value of the notes and coins of the Metical.

In these terms, under the articles 1 and 2 of Law No. 1/91, of January 9, combined with item f) of paragraph 1 of article 47 of Law No. 1/92, of January 3, and with paragraph 2 of article 2 of Law No. 7/2005, of December 19, I determine:

ARTICLE 1 (Issuance of the Metical - New Family) Notes and metallic coins of the Metical are issued with the following values.

a) Face value of the notes: — One Thousand Meticais 1000 Meticais — Five Hundred Meticais 500 Meticais — Two Hundred Meticais 200 Meticais — One Hundred Meticais 100 Meticais — Fifty Meticais 50 Meticais — Twenty Meticais 20 Meticais

b) Face value of the metallic coins: — Ten Meticais 10 Meticais — Five Meticais 5 Meticais — Two Meticais 2 Meticais — One Metical 1 Metical — Fifty centavos 50 Centavos — Twenty Centavos 20 Centavos — Ten Centavos 10 Centavos — Five Centavos 5 Centavos — One Centavo 1 Centavo

ARTICLE 2 (Characteristics of the Notes)

1. On the front, the notes have the following main common characteristics: a) Text reading: — At the top of the note: — Bank of Mozambique. — In the right center of the note: — Value of the note in words b) Logo of the Bank of Mozambique; c) Date of issuance; d) Text - Samora Moisés Machel, First President of Mozambique; e) Value of the note in figures in the bottom right and top left corners; f) Designation of the series and vertical and horizontal numbering on the left and right side of the note, respectively; g) Signature, by seal, of the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique; h) Sign for the visually impaired in the upper left corner.

2. On the back, the notes have the following main common characteristics: a) Text reading: — At the top of the note: — Bank of Mozambique — At the bottom of the note: — Value of the note in words b) Value of the note in figures in the four corners; c) Representation of Mozambique's wildlife; d) Text — Counterfeiting of currency is punished in accordance with the law.

3. The paper of the notes has an embedded security thread. Each note has a watermark on the left side of the front with the image of the First President of Mozambique — Samora Moisés Machel.

4. The notes have the following specific characteristics: a) 1,000 Meticais Note Dimensions: 156 x 65 millimeters Predominant color: Green with varied shades. Note Theme: On the front: History of Mozambique. On the back: Wildlife. Elements present on the front: Portrait of the First President of Mozambique - Samora Moisés Machel. Hologram below the words Bank of Mozambique Value of the note in figures in the watermark area Seal with effect BM and 1000 below the watermark Latent image "1000" below the signature, by seal, of the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique Elements present on the back: Elephants in the jungle Iridescent band

b) 500 Meticais Note Dimensions: 153 x 65 millimeters Predominant color: Purple with varied shades. Note Theme: On the front: History of Mozambique. On the back: Wildlife. ARTICLE 3 (Characteristics of the Metallic Coins)

1. The metallic coins have the following main common characteristics: a) On the front: — Value in figures offset; — Representation of a theme on education, economy, agriculture, culture, history and fauna of Mozambique; — Designation of the coin: Metical, Meticais, Centavo and Centavos, depending on the value of the coin. b) On the back. — Logo of the Bank of Mozambique; — Surrounding the coin, the words "Bank of Mozambique". — Year of issuance below the logo c) The coins have a circular shape except for the 1 Metical coin which has a heptagonal shape.

2. The coins have the following specific characteristics on the front: a) 10 Meticais Coin Theme: Public Building Front Figure: Bank of Mozambique Building — Headquarters Weight: 7.50 grams Diameter: 25.00 millimeters Edge: Serrated Composition: Bimetal Inner alloy - Steel coated with nickel Outer alloy - Nickel-plated brass

ARTICLE 4 (Simultaneous Circulation) From July 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006, the notes and coins of the Metical in circulation, at the date of entry into force of this Notice, circulate simultaneously with the notes and coins of the Metical of the new family.

ARTICLE 5 (Removal from Circulation) From January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2012, the date on which the notes and coins of the Metical in circulation at the date of entry into force of this Notice lose their liberatory power in the Republic of Mozambique, they must be exchanged for the notes and coins of the Metical of the new family, applying the conversion rate established by Law No. 7/2005, of December 20, under the following terms and deadlines: a) From January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007, in banking establishments. b) From January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2012, at the Bank of Mozambique.

ARTICLE 6 (Entry into Force) This Notice produces effects from July 1, 2006, revoking any provisions to the contrary.

ARTICLE 7 (Clarification of Doubts) Doubts arising from the interpretation and application of this Notice will be clarified by the Issuance and Payment System Department of the Bank of Mozambique.
