The Reserve Bank of India inserts new provisions defining specified non-financial assets (SNFAs) as immovable assets acquired in satisfaction of claims on non-performing exposures. Banks must incorporate policies limiting SNFA holdings as a share of total assets and disposing of them within seven years, while recording these assets at the lower of net book value or distress sale value. Legacy SNFAs outstanding as of September 30, 2026, must achieve compliance by September 30, 2027, and the directions come into force on October 1, 2026.
