2024 Q3 Quarterly decision on the countercyclical buffer rate: 1.0%
The National Bank of Belgium maintains the countercyclical capital buffer rate for exposures in Belgium at 1.0% for the third quarter of 2024. This decision continues the phased implementation announced in July 2023, which set the rate at 0.5% effective 1 April 2024 and increased it to 1.0% effective 1 October 2024. The buffer applies to credit institutions' risk-weighted assets to enhance the banking sector's resilience against potential unexpected losses.
