Circular CREFI 1 - 33. OPASI 2 - 113. OPRAC 1 - 366. Derogation of established categories for operating in foreign currency

Effective February 1, 1994, the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina abolishes the previous categorization of banking entities for foreign currency and foreign trade operations. Financial companies are now permitted to conduct foreign exchange transactions, including those involving direct risk assumption such as documentary credits, provided they meet the minimum capital requirements applicable to commercial banks. Credit unions and housing savings and loan associations may perform all operations authorized for exchange houses if they hold the equivalent minimum capital. Additionally, all banks and financial companies are authorized to conduct forward and swap operations in foreign currency under the regime of Communication A 1590.
