Convention for the Suppression of Financing of Terrorism Act

The Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism Act 2003, as amended by Acts 9 and 13 of 2019, establishes the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism as having the force of law in Mauritius. Section 4 creates offences for willfully providing or collecting funds or assets for terrorist acts or by terrorists, including travel for terrorist training, with a mandatory minimum penalty of three years penal servitude. The Act grants Judges in Chambers authority to issue warrants for seizure and restraint orders for property suspected of being terrorist property, and allows for forfeiture upon application by the Commissioner of Police. Jurisdiction extends to offences committed within Mauritius, on Mauritian vessels or aircraft, by nationals or habitual residents, and against Mauritian state facilities abroad, while the offence is deemed extraditable under the Extradition Act.
